12 hour Paediatric First Aid

This detailed 12 hour paediatric first aid course is designed for all childcare professionals - working at playgroups, nurseries and after school clubs. It meets Ofsted requirements for registered childminders and is approved by the CSSIW.

The course is designed to be interactive, engaging and fun. It covers the following topics:

• Aims of first aid
• Looking after an unwell child
• Emergency response plan
• Prioritising injuries and treatment - casualty assessment
• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (child and baby)
• Caring for the unconscious child or baby
• Child and baby choking
• Recognising and treating common causes of unconsciousness (including medical conditions - diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, allergy)
• Treating burns and scalds
• Dealing with head injuries
• Treating cases of poisoning
• Recognising meningitis, appendicitis and gastroenteritis
• Managing wounds and bleeding
• Treating shock
• Managing fractures including spinal injuries

The course is a lively mixture of practical and theoretical work. All our trainers are specially selected and are extremely experienced in this field.

Although there is no formal assessment at the end of this course, students are encouraged to participate as fully as possible. There are plenty of chances to practise techniques learnt on manikins as well as bandaging each other up! The course price includes a full training pack containing current text book, stationery and resuscitation face shield. A certificate of attendance is awarded to all students who complete the course and is valid for 3 years.

This course is suitable for childcare professionals from Chester, Wrexham, Shropshire and North Wales who need a full paediatric first aid certificate.
