Atrium. . . at the heart of Health & Safety

May 2006

Atrium working in collaboration with the HSE

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are over the next couple of months hosting a number of road shows all over the country to highlight the risks of working at low heights as part of their height aware campaign.

At their request Atrium will be undertaking a demonstration in both of the North Wales events to educate people on how to manage a fallen casualty until professional help arrives.

The events will be held: -

On the 6th June 2006, at Redwither Tower, Wrexham

On the 20th June 2006, at Treysgawen Hall, Llangefni

The Health and Safety Executive have launched an email alert system to notify you when new legislation or guidance appears via their website.

To subscribe go to http://www.hse.gov.uk/new/ebulletins/index.htm and fill in the on line response form. You will be emailed and asked to reply and the system will then hopefully be set up.

March 2006

The Health and Safety Executive has recently announced that from now on all domestic Health and Safety Legislation will become live on one of two dates during the year.

These dates are the 6th April and 1st October. It is hoped that by restricting the implementation of new domestic Health and safety legislation to 2 days a year it will make changes to legislation easier for companies to track and to have focused information campaigns in support of the new legislation.

This does not affect some European Legislation but as of the 20th February the HSE web site does not have any alerts falling within this category.

Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations – Following a recent discussion with the First Aid Monitoring Service (FAMS) of the Health and Safety Executive it has been confirmed that there has been no new progress on the revision of these regulations. Change to the regulations and first aid courses are still planned but the latest information is that there is no set implementation date. FAMS state that there will be a 12 month lead time prior to the changes coming in to force. As a result Atrium no longer expects these changes to impact during the financial year 2006 -2007. Atrium will continue to monitor this situation and will endeavour to update you as it develops.
