We have all used the word ‘stress’ at some point in our life, but its’ definition, interpretation and manifestation, differs from one person to the next. As employers, we recognise and fulfil our duty to ensure the physical safety of our employees, but are we doing enough to protect the ‘overall well-being’ of our staff? Atrium offers the opportunity to achieve a recognised Stress Awareness qualification, aimed to assist general workers and senior level managers alike, to form strategies to combat work related stress.

We are able to offer the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Foundation Certificate in Stress Awareness. This 4 hour course is suitable for all employees and supervisors / managers who have to deal with work related stress.

The purpose of the course is to: -

• Raise awareness of the likely sources of work related stress
• Outline the symptoms and the effects that it can cause
• Outline options for its control

Subjects covered include: -

• Definition of stress
• Stress as an occupational hazard?
• Identification of basic work place stressors
• Development of basic controls for work related stressors
• Outline responsibilities under UK legislation

By the end of the course students will be able to: -

• Explain what is meant by the terms stress and work related stress
• Explain the importance of controlling stress in the workplace
• Explain the typical stress related factors in the workplace
• Identify stress in colleagues and themselves
• Advise on and implement controls in the workplace to reduce stress
• Monitor colleagues and themselves in relation to stress at work
