Suction Therapy Course

This short course can be delivered at 2 levels.

It can be run as an update course for health care providers who although not utilising suction apparatus on a regular basis may occasionally have to use it as part of their duties.

Alternatively an extended course can be offered in this potentially life saving equipment for first aiders who may encounter unconscious casualties with a compromised airway.

The course covers the selection, maintenance and use of suction apparatus during an emergency situation when staff may be faced with an unconscious patient who has a compromised airway due to solid / semi solid matter. Also covered are the importance of prevention of cross infection and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, indications, cautions and contraindications to aspirator use.

It is a mixture of theory and hands on practical during which students handle the equipment gaining familiarity with it and the confidence to utilise it if required.

There is a short assessment paper at the end of the course.

This course is certificated.
