Emergency First Aid at Work with Paediatrics

 

This emergency first aid course is designed for school staff. It aims to help teachers and teaching assistants looking after employees, pupils and visitors to school who become ill or injured and need basic assistance until professional help arrives. The course is HSE approved and covers the following topics:

  • Assessing the situation
  • Summoning help
  • Adult and child resuscitation
  • Care of the unconscious casualty
  • Causes of unconsciousness (including chronic conditions such as dicabetes and epilepsy)
  • Recognition and treatment of heart attacks and strokes
  • Choking
  • Wounds and the treament of bleeding
  • Treatment of shock
  • Treatment of burns and scalds
  • Basic fracture management

 

This course is 5-6 hours long and be delivered either in one 6 hour session or over two 3 hour sessions held after the school day. All delegates are awarded a certificate of attendance which is valid for 3 years.
